Recutting splines on the Transmission shaft for my Electric Jeep
Просмотров 40 тыс.21 день назад
I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1956 Jeep CJ5 and converting it to an electric vehicle, and the next hurdle to overcome was re-splining the transmission input shaft to mate to the motor. This was tricky, but I took my time working through it and I'm really happy with the result. I used Anchor Lube in this video and I'm excited they're now a supporter of the channel. Salvaging Jeep parts that weren't "worth saving"
Просмотров 14 тыс.4 месяца назад
There weren't too many parts of the body of my 1956 Jeep CJ5 that were worth saving. There wasn't even a tailgate, so I bought one that still probably wasn't worth saving when you consider replacements are readily availible. But I like salvaging these's parts, so in this episode I turn the junk tool compartment and tailgate into useable parts. If you like what I'm doing here and find some value...

Tip Try putting a hood over the base to shield the cooling fins from rising heat, but have a duct to vent the heat into the stream of the fan. Shape it so that it catches the rising hot air to duct forwards.

Tips They make special epoxies for fixing up minor oopsies in bearing seating surfaces. For a more permanent and professional fix there is a brazing material used to resurface automotive exhaust and or intake valves. This stuff can be applied with oxyacetylene gear and ground to a suitable finish for Morse tapers and such. Just don’t ask me the name of the stuff I forgot it five seconds after I heard it.

I made a lead screw nut for my current Logan (Montgomery Wards version, using previous Logan/MW) from a block of aluminum.. helped to make a sample external thread, measured as close as possible to the original, including dimensions over pins, then you can check the thread without disassembling things. Without a QC gearbox, it might help to connect a worm gear motor (ie power window motor) to lead screw, & drive with a variable power supply, to adjust feed.. would have to get ratio right for a usable range of feeds - although I have not done this yet myself - but might be handy for small parts at high speed especially. Great to see some TLC for the lathe..

A project like restoring a very rusty jeep becomes like that broom that you’ve owned for twenty years, it’s only had six new handles and ten new heads. Jokes aside unless you’re restoring it to be a museum piece good enough is good enough and better is just tossing the bit you think you can repair and getting or making a new one. And if you’re doing a restomod tossing everything that was designed to be cheap nasty and disposable and replacing it with a more modern version is often the best choice as repairing something that you can’t get parts for anymore is Sisyphean.

You must be new to RUclips, so let me explain how this sort of video is supposed to work: 1. Take the machine entirely apart 2. Clean and sand every bit of it 3. Spray every piece of it black, maybe choose an accent color 4. Re-assemble it, take some 360-degree video of how sexy it looks 5. Never show it on the channel again. We sent you a rulebook, please be sure to read it before making such a mistake again. Thanks, The MGT

I have a Logan Wards 700. It looks very similar to your 200. Not the same but close. Do you have trouble with the nut for the handwheel on your tailstock coming loose? If I tighten mine up the handwheel gets too tight to use. I have to leave it sort of loose and that bothers me. I've had it apart a few times but I can't find why it does this.

Thingiverse has a few for the atlas/craftsman, don't know if they have any specific for yours.
